captured-2008-8-31-00012.jpg   The Crested Butte Farmers Market is a non-profit organization devoted to promoting sustainable, local agriculture.  Established in Crested Butte in 2007, the Crested Butte Farmers Market has provided opportunities to regional farmers, ranchers, bakers, artists and artisans to sell their products directly to the public.

With a primary focus of education, the Crested Butte Farmers Market offers a series of educational activities, demonstrations, workshops and film screenings for both children and adults throughout the summer.  Children can enjoy planting seeds, coloring contests or even a field day to promote children’s health and wellness while adults can participate in a series of food preservation workshops or enjoy at-market chef’s demonstrations.

Further, the people of the Crested Butte Farmers Market hold a strong belief that everyone, regardless of income, deserves access to wholesome, sustainably grown local foods.   To this end, the Crested Butte Farmers Market will work in conjunction with Gunnison County’s WIC program and the local food pantry to ensure access to wholesome food for residents on the north-end of the valley.

But you can’t neglect the eclectic series of events found at the Crested Butte Market.   The 2009 season brings a Melon Eating Contest, Salsa Competition, Elk Avenue Straw-bale Bowling, Eat Local Recipe Contest and the ever-popular Third Annual Peach Pit Spit.

There’s a good time for all at the Crested Butte Farmers Market.
